The distinctive emblem of the Pelham family is a medieval belt buckle, and it can be seen all around Great Limber.
It was awarded to Sir John Pelham by the Edward, the Black Prince, at the battle of Poitiers in 1356. Sir John Pelham and Sir Roger de la Warr secured the capture of the King of France. The Pelham family has several branches, and the emblem can also be seen in Sir John Pelham's home village of Laughton, E. Sussex.
